The mission

The challenge

Last week, an international mechanical engineering company contacted us late in the evening one day with an urgent transport request. A spare part only available in southern Germany had to be transported as quickly as possible to a manufacturing plant near Melbourne, Australia.

The transport

Given the urgency and risk of production downtime, the main criteria for the machine manufacturer when selecting the right transport service provider and service were both immediate transport and full shipment status transparency. The company decided to have the shipment personally escorted by a time:matters On Board Courier.

The shipment was brought directly from southern Germany to our headquarters in Neu-Isenburg that night so that it could be taken onto the first flight headed Down Under the next morning.

8:30 a.m. (UTC+1): Our On Board Courier initially receives all important information on the task to hand in a detailed briefing. He then takes the shipment, plus the necessary documents, and heads immediately to Frankfurt Airport. Once there, he completes the export customs clearance, security and passport control formalities.

12:27 p.m. (UTC+1): The jet takes off on time for Singapore, landing 30 minutes late at 7:09 a.m. local time (UTC+8). The courier needs to act fast as he has less than 30 minutes to make the connection. A special shuttle taxi brings him from the aircraft directly to the transit desk. He manages to make the connection and the aircraft bound for Melbourne takes off at around 7:45 a.m. local time.

5:03 p.m. (UTC+10): The flight lands in Melbourne, where our local partner handles the import customs clearance formalities. Following a security check, the courier then hotfoots it to a taxi with the duty-paid shipment.

6:45 p.m. (UTC+10): The already expected shipment is handed over to the technician at the production plant north of Melbourne.

The result

A shipment handed over to the technician in Australia less than 26 hours after the courier began his journey in Neu-Isenburg. The customer, who was using the service for the first time, was really happy.

Thanks to the online tracking function, he was able to keep an eye on where his shipment was at all times.
